New UK Fusion Energy strategy maps path to commercial fusion

STEP Fusion announces three senior appointments

UK Fusion Energy Ltd (UKFE), the organisation responsible for delivering the UK’s first prototype fusion power plant, has announced three senior appointments as STEP Fusion moves into its next phase.

Helen Sisson has been promoted to Head of Communications and Engagement, while Mark Jenkinson and Tara Chopra join from UKFE’s construction partner ILIOS as Head of Corporate Affairs and Head of Development Consent Order (DCO), respectively.

The appointments strengthen the organisation’s communications, stakeholder engagement and planning capabilities as activity increases around STEP Fusion at West Burton in Nottinghamshire.

Helen, who has established relationships across the region, will lead communications and engagement for the programme.

She said: “It’s an incredibly exciting time for STEP Fusion. I’m looking forward to building on the strong relationships we already have across the region and helping communities and stakeholders understand what we’re working to achieve, and the opportunities STEP Fusion can create.”

Mark brings extensive political and stakeholder experience and will lead UK Fusion Energy’s corporate affairs activity.

He said: “STEP Fusion is a hugely ambitious programme with the potential to create significant opportunities for the region and the UK. I’m looking forward to helping build the relationships and understanding needed to support its delivery.”

Tara brings significant experience of Development Consent Orders and will lead the consenting process for STEP Fusion.

She said: “STEP Fusion is a unique infrastructure project and I’m excited to join the team as we progress the DCO and continue working closely with communities and stakeholders throughout the process.”

STEP Fusion is the UK’s programme to design and build a prototype fusion power plant at the former West Burton power station site in Nottinghamshire.
