OUR PARTNERS AND SUPPLY CHAIN

The STEP Fusion prototype power plant at West Burton is being delivered by UK Fusion Energy Ltd.

As the whole plant integrator, UK Fusion Energy brings together government, investors, industrial partners and world-leading research to deliver STEP Fusion. This public-private alliance model is a huge opportunity for industry. UK Fusion Energy will work with a range of industrial partners in the years ahead — with three key strategic partners across fusion, engineering, and construction, which we call Whole Plant Partners.

As well as our Whole Plant Partners, we are advertising a range of procurement opportunities for businesses to join our supply chain, you can find these in our portal

STEP Fusion’s key fusion partner is the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA). UKAEA is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. It researches fusion energy and related technologies with the aim of positioning the UK as a leader in fusion energy.

In March 2026 we announced ILIOS as STEP Fusion’s Construction Partner. The ILIOS Consortium is a joint Kier-NUVIA venture whose members include Turner & Townsend, AECOM and AL__A Architects. Together they will build our prototype fusion power plant, employing approximately 8,000 workers throughout the construction phase.

Systems Partners and Strategic Suppliers

In the coming years, as the plant design matures, STEP Fusion will need to develop expertise in specific technology areas through System Partners and also with a broader strategic supply chain.

We recently announced Tokamak Energy as our magnet systems partner and Dassault Systèmes as our digital systems partner.

We’re open to working with businesses both big and small. Our aim is to be an economic and industrial opportunity for the UK on a significant scale. So delivering STEP Fusion will require a balance between specific fusion plant work, and wider collaboration.

OUR SPONSOR AND PARENT ORGANISATIONS

UK Fusion Energy Ltd is sponsored by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and is a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK Atomic Energy Authority Group. The UKAEA Group is also responsible for our fusion partner the UK Atomic Energy Authority (the UK’s national fusion lab).

While we work closely with the UKAEA as our fusion partner and build on decades of UK fusion research and development, we operate as our own organisation – with responsibility as the whole plant integrator for delivering the UK’s first prototype fusion power plant at West Burton.

The UK Government has committed £2.5 billion towards fusion energy through its Industrial Strategy to 2030, with £1.3 billion allocated directly to STEP Fusion. This long-term backing from DESNZ is helping establish the foundations needed to deliver fusion in the UK, including technology development, site preparation, supply chain growth and skills development.

Beyond 2030, UK Fusion Energy Ltd expects to attract further investment and partnership opportunities from the private sector – as we focus on delivering STEP Fusion and the wider UK fusion industry continues to grow.

Our UK Fusion Energy Strategy sets out how we’ll deliver on recent government investment as we move from research towards delivery.
